George B. Loving. Stock Manual: containing the name, post office address, ranch location, marks and brands of all the principal stockmen of western and northwestern Texas, showing marks and brands on electrotype cuts as they appear on the animal. Fort Worth: George B. Loving, 1881. 12mo. 274pp, plus unpaginated index. Housed in a cream-colored cloth bound case, with title on the spine.

A scarce item, listing brands and locations of all principal stockmen of western and northwestern Texas stockmen. Self-published, Loving borrowed money to fund the project against property owned by his mother. Unable to repay one of these loans, and not having right of title to use his mother's property to secure the loan, Loving brought suit against one of his lenders in a case brought before the Texas State Supreme Court.

Listed in Wright Howes U.S. IANA rated aa, but in our experience one of the scarcest of titles on the stock trade. This is only the second copy we have handled, and the first containing all pages, including the title page.

Condition: Lacking spine, and top board is detached. All pages are present, with wear resulting in rounded corners to first signature; but title page remains complete with a few tiny chips and a small stain at top. Pages 7/8 are disbound, and has heavy chipping and tearing; but note the condition of this page is atypical of the rest of the volume. Pages 37-38 are disbound but intact. Pages 58-59 has a small tear with paper loss at top center of the page. Remaining pages are gently toned, with light ghosting from the facing page.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
