    Description

    Frank Herbert's Scarce First Book

Frank Herbert. Survival and the Atom. Santa Rosa, 1950.

First edition. Octavo. Nineteen double-columned pages. Three maps.

Pamphlet bound in saddled-stapled illustrated wraps. Ink and pencil marginalia of previous owner. An otherwise very good copy of this exceedingly scarce item.

This pamphlet is an offset of an article that Frank Herbert wrote for the Santa Rosa Press Democrat in which he examines a scenario of an atomic attack perpetrated upon San Francisco, the largest city in proximity to Santa Rosa. From the publisher's foreword: "This article in no way intends to imply that the West Coast is threatened with atomic attack. The information will have equal survival value for many types of disaster. The series is being reprinted in this form by The Press Democrat as a special public service feature."
