Elliott Coues. The Expeditions of Zebulon Montgomery Pike, To Headwaters of the Mississippi River, Through Louisiana Territory, and in New Spain, During the Years 1805-6-7. New York: Francis P. Harper, 1895. The "New Edition", limited to 1150 total copies (150 on hand-made paper; 1000 on fine paper) of which this copy is hand-numbered 728. Three 8vo. volumes. cxiii, 356; vi, 357-855; 857-955. Frontispiece. With five of the six folding maps/charts as called for - missing "Map of the Internal Provinces of New Spain". Original green cloth with titles stamped in gilt on the spine. Edges untrimmed. All volumes with trivial shelf wear mainly in the form of bumped corners. Front hinge broken in Volume I with loose front board; rear hinge starting with a few taped repairs and detached title page. Volume II hinges are slightly tender. Contents of all volumes toned and slightly brittle along the page edges. Otherwise, a very good set.

Considered by scholars to be superior to the original 1810 edition due to the added annotations and appended documents.
