Edgar Rice Burroughs' first published novel and most celebrated work, Tarzan of the Apes, first appeared in the pulp magazine All-Story in October 1912. While writing the novel, he was awaiting publication of his first short story, "Under the Moons of Mars" (which he had written while working as a pencil sharpener) in All-Story. This 1914 edition of Tarzan helped to launch a series of novels that kept Burroughs busy until his death in 1950. From the Robert and Diane Yaspan Collection.
