In original binding of blue cloth lettered in gilt on spines, front covers with gilt sun design with rays radiating outward, flying black bird silhouettes on covers designed by artist Edwin Abbey. Map in rear pocket separated at various folds. Inscription bookplates to front paste-downs of both covers. Light wear to cloth, mild wear to extremities, light spots to covers, else tight, very attractive set.
Sought after not only for its content but also for its well-known Edwin Abbey cover which always pops up on lists of the best decorative publisher bindings of the nineteenth century.
