    Christopher Marlowe and George Chapman. Hero and Leander. London and Edinburgh: Printed by the Ballantyne Press and Sold by Elkin Mathews and John Lane, 1894.

    Limited edition, one of 220 copies printed on handmade paper. Octavo. Wood engravings and decorations by Charles Ricketts and Charles Shannon.

    Original full vellum decorated in gilt by Charles Ricketts. Fore-edge and bottom edge uncut. Housed in a brown chemise and slipcase. Boards slightly bowed, as usual. Spine slightly faded. Light dust-soiling to front endpapers. A near fine copy.

    The colophon page states that his book was begun at the Vale, which later became Ricketts' Vale Press in 1896. Also according to the colophon page, this book was created to commemorate the Aldine edition of Hero and Leander published in 1494.
