Description

Brother Antoninus (William Everson) Two books inscribed to Susana Rickson, the author's third wife. Everson was one of the San Francisco Renaissance poets (the Beats) and a member of the Dominican Order. After meeting Rickson he renounced his Dominican calling and married her shortly thereafter.

The first book is The Springing of the Blade - Poems of Nineteen forty-seven (Reno: The Black Rock Press, 1968), first edition, one of 180 copies, not paginated, folio (10" x 13"), bound by hand press in green cloth, and in very good condition. Everson has inscribed the front free endpaper "For Susana beloved friend from Brother Antoninus Pentacost [sic] Sunday June 2, 1968 Kentfield Priary [sic]" and signed the book with his full signature on the second front free endpaper.

The second book is The Last Crusade With a Note to the Poem by the Author (Berkeley: Graham Macintosh, 1969), first edition, copy number 1 of 165 numbered signed copies, 25 pages, folio (10" x 13"), bound in beige cloth with vellum spine, and in very good condition. Everson has inscribed the front free endpaper "This the first copy of The Last Crusade is for my beloved new wife Susana in whose hands I place my life December 30, 1969 William Everson". There is a full Brother Antoninus signature on the colophon page.
