First edition, thus. Two quarto volumes bound as one. xxii, 338; xiii, 318 pages. Errata sheets. Twelve engraved plates. Lacking the portrait frontispiece.
Full contemporary mottled calf. Raised bands. Gilt designs to the compartments. Gilt lettering to spine. Marbled endpapers. Joints splitting, but still tight. Bookplates to front pastedown of both a previous owner as well as Harvard College Library (with small library markings on title page, both recto and verso).
Translated into French by Franklin's friend, Jacques Barbeu du Bourg, from the fourth American edition, with additional work added. Volume I concerns Franklin's studies and experiments in electricity. Volume II has chapters on subjects such as weather, music, swimming, etc.
