Publisher's green cloth with gilt cover and spine lettering and gilt cover emblem incorporating Sanskrit letters. The slightest sear to spine extremities but overall an excellent copy of this foundational work. Inscribed by Getty on the front endpaper: "To Mrs. George Dunlap, in affectionate (?), Alice Getty". An indispensable reference for art historians, scholars of Eastern philosophy and religion, with a wealth of detailed scholarly information on names, attributes, symbolism, pictorial representations of virtually every major and minor divinity in the Mahayana pantheon, as worshipped in Nepal, Tibet, China, Korea, Mongolia, and Japan.
