    First edition. Twelvemo. 224, plus 4 pages of publisher's ads. Frontispiece, illustrations.

    Publisher's green cloth with gilt lettering and gilt pictorial stamping, blind-stamped borders and decorations; yellow coated endpapers. Binding cocked. Wear to edges and some gilt rubbed; a couple of moisture spots to front board. Occasional foxing; dampstain affecting bottom margin of the last ninety or so pages. Tip of rear free endpaper missing. Neat period gift inscription on front free endpaper ("for being a good boy"). An about very good copy.

    Contains what is thought to be the first known use in a work of fiction of the term "base ball" to describe the game.
