Description

Alexander Watkins Terrell. From Texas to Mexico and the Court of Maximilian in 1865. Dallas: The Book Club of Texas, 1933. First edition, limited to two hundred hand-numbered copies. 8vo. xviii, 94 pages. Original publisher's tan cloth over boards, with a yellow cloth spine on which titles are stamped in gilt. Front and rear board each have a small area of damp staining not detracting from the otherwise near fine condition of this slim volume.

    More Information:

Terrell served with distinction during the Civil War but upon conclusion of the hostilities resolved not to live under "Yankee oppression" and fled to Mexico where he served briefly as a battalion commander under Emperor Maximilian. He quickly became disillusioned with Mexico and returned to the United States where he led a distinguished career in law and government.
