    First Editon of Holinshed's Chronicles

    [Shakespeare Source Book]. [Raphael Holinshed]. [The Chronicles of England, Scotlande, and Irelande]. Volumes II and III bound together. [London: Imprinted for John Hunne, 1577].

    First edition. Single quarto volume containing Volume II on Scotland and Volume III on Ireland. [6], 518, [24], [2], 28, [1], 115, [3] pages. Title pages lacking for both volumes. Table at rear of Volume III is incomplete and only represented by a single leaf.

    Eighteenth-century full calf with spine rebacked using portion of original. The shield of the Royal coat of arms of the United Kingdom is stamped in gilt on front and rear and bordered in double blind dentelles. All edges stained red. Heavily rubbed and scuffed. Pages appear trimmed, sometimes affecting annotations. Pages are lightly toned with occasional foxing. One leaf detached but present in History of Scotland. Overall, a good copy.
