    Joannes Leo Africanus (c. 1494-c.1554) was an Arab diplomat, author, and Muslim intellectual best known for this, his book describing North Africa, originally titled Descrittione dell'Africa. Thought to be Shakespeare's inspiration for the character of Othello.
