Original gilt-stamped pictorial green morocco-grained cloth. All edges gilt. Maroon endpapers. Binding cracked between preliminary blank pages. Rear hinge cracked. Binding quite loose. Minor wear to spine ends and corners. Printed (promotional?) material (torn) affixed to front pastedown. Bookplate to verso of flyleaf. In a chemise and worn custom gilt-stamped book-backed slipcase. An attractive book in better than good condition.

    Contains the first appearance in book form of the poem "To the Pliocene Skull" by Bret Harte (attributed to Frank Bret Harte) and of Mark Twain's "Description of the Azore Islands" (by Samuel Clemens) which was later included in Innocents Abroad.
