Printed from the Veronese Edition of MCCCCLXXIX in Latin Verses and the Italian Version by Accio Zucco, with the Woodcuts Newly Engraved and Coloured After a Copy in the British Museum. [Together with:] William Caxton. The First Three Books of Caxton's Aesop. Containing the Fables Illustrated in the Verona Aesopus of MCCCCLXXIX. Verona: [Editiones Officinae Bodoni]: 1973. Limited to 160 copies, this being copy number 144. Two large octavo volumes (9.75 x 6.25 inches; 245 x 159 mm.). [4, blank], [300], [4, blank]; [4, blank], [122], [2, blank] pages. With sixty-eight hand-colored woodcuts. Publisher's green morocco-backed vellum boards, boards ruled and lettered in gilt, spines lettered in gilt, top edge gilt, original acetate jackets, brown morocco-tipped slipcase. Laid-in is the one-page list of woodcuts, and the one-page publisher's prospectus. Some light toning to spine edges, boards somewhat toned and foxed (mild discoloration to front board of second volume,) some toning, wrinkling to acetate, light foxing to edges of text blocks, minor wear to slipcase. A Near fine copy.This lovely work was published to commemorate the fifteenth anniversary of the Officina Bodoni press. The original woodcuts of 1479 were re-cut by Anna Bramanti.
