A Two Volume Set of Froissart, Each Volume with Six Fore-Edge Paintings on All Edges of Text

[Fore-Edge Paintings]. Sir John Froissart. Chronicles of England, France, Spain, and The adjoining Countries... London: William Smith, 1839. Two large octavo volumes. With two fore-edge paintings on each edge of text; edges additionally decorated in red and blue ornament, each cleverly used to delineate each painting. Engraved full-color title in volume I, several intertextual illustrations. Beautifully bound in full red morocco over raised, framed boards, boards decoratively ruled and paneled in gilt, spines tooled and lettered in gilt in compartments, five raised bands, gilt board-edges and turn-ins. Some wear to bindings (especially at spine of volume I), first gutter in volume I cracked, some toning and foxing in text. Bookseller's ticket on rear pastedown of each volume and armorial bookplate of Richard Heywood Jones on each front pastedown. A good set with excellent fore-edge paintings, each illustrating vignettes from the text.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
