    [Fore-Edge Paintings]. Richard Chenevix Trench. Poems. London: Macmillan and Co., 1874. A New Edition. Octavo. 410 pages. [Together With:] Edward Young. The Poetical Works of Edward Young. London: William Pickering, 1852. From The Aldine Edition of the British Poets set. Two small octavo volumes. Bound in contemporary bindings (the Trench title is bound in full brown morocco, gilt, and the Young volumes are bound in matching full green morocco, gilt). Each volume with a fore-edge painting depicting scenes from the American West (either Native Americans on the plains or cowboys roping a steer). Some wear to bindings. Generally fair.


    More Information:

    Twelvemo. Contemporary full brown pebbled morocco over beveled boards, boards ruled in blind, spine ruled in blind and lettered in gilt in compartments, five raised bands, yellow coated endleaves. Some light rubbing to binding, hinges just starting, previous owner's signature on front free endpaper, neat contemporary ink gift inscription on first blank, endleaves a bit soiled. Still, a very good copy with an unusual fore-edge painting of text (in black and red).
