The Second Johnson-Steevens Edition of Shakespeare's Plays, with the Two Supplemental Volumes on the Poems

William Shakespeare. The Plays of William Shakespeare... With the Corrections and Illustrations of Various Commentators; to which are added Notes by Samuel Johnson and George Steevens. London: Printed for C. Bathurst, W. Strahan, [et al.], 1788. Second Johnson-Steevens edition. Ten octavo volumes. With portrait (possibly supplied), folding plate, and all half-titles. [Together with]: [William Shakespeare]. Supplement to the Edition of Shakespeare's Plays Published in 1778 by Samuel Johnson and George Steevens... London: Printed for C. Bathurst, W. Strahan [et al.], 1780. First edition of these supplemental volumes. Two octavo volumes. With frontispiece, folding plate, portrait, and half-titles. Uniformly bound in contemporary full brown calf. Together, twelve octavo volumes. All volumes rebacked to style in dark brown calf, covers ruled and tooled in gilt in compartments, burgundy gilt morocco lettering labels. Some mild wear, soiling, a few hinges starting (yet all bindings solid), evidence of bookplate removal in first supplemental volume, previous owner's signatures on endleaves of all volumes. Overall, very good. With some of the best scholarship ever done on Shakespeare and his works.
