Twelvemo (6.5 x 4 inches; 164 x 112 mm.). xvi, [i]-cxxiv, [1]-223, [1, blank] pages. With portrait frontispiece inserted at front. Bound by Sangorski & Sutcliffe for Charles W. Sawyer in green levant morocco, front board with gilt floral motif of Gray's initials with red morocco floral onlays, front board decoratively ruled and lettered in gilt, with red morocco floral onlays and gilt-stamped flowers in corners (front board is lettered with two lines from Gray's "Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard). Rear board is similarly decorated in gilt and red floral corner onlays, however lacking the text and the central decorations. The spine is stamped and lettered in gilt in compartments, five raised bands, with five red morocco floral onlays in compartments; gilt board-edges and turn-ins, all edges gilt, brown morocco doublures with cream watered silk liners. The front doublure is set within a sunken panel; in that panel is an original oval miniature portrait of Gray in full color under glass; set around the portrait are six small pearls surrounded by gilt floral decorations. Fine. Housed in green cloth, felt-lined, clamshell case (some soiling and mild wear).
