Ernest Hemingway's Daybooks 1937/38. Two volumes, 448 pages each. One 1937 copy & one 1938 copy of Warner's Calendar of Medical History, presumably intended by Hemingway for use as journals. Both copies measure 5.25" x 8" with all edges gilt and come housed in a brown custom cloth-bound slipcase.

The 1937 volume is unused, bound in limp brown leather with 1937 in gilt on the spine and ERNEST HEMINGWAY in gilt lettering on the front cover. This volume has slight damage to the front lower joint and some shelf wear to the bottom edge.

The 1938 volume contains two Hemingway entries. On January 1, Hemingway enumerates thusly: "Money received 1938" and lists "Scribners, Esquire, Ken, Cosmopolitan nontaxable, Warners, Stock sale 748.00, Bonds, other Stocks, [and] Douglas 40.00." On January 3, Hemingway writes the single word "Expenses". No surprise that these volumes are all but empty, as Hemingway was, at this time, intimately involved in the Loyalist cause while a correspondent in the Spanish Civil War. This volume is bound in limp burgundy leather with 1938 in gilt on the spine. The 1938 copy is in better condition, with only a small vertical crease in the middle of the front cover and slight soiling to front free endpaper. Otherwise, these daybooks are in very good condition and would be an attractive addition to any Hemingway collection.
