"Despite the centuries of fruitless effort to fly like the birds, it was a balloon - a 'cloud enclosed in a bag' - that first took men for a voyage in the air. Faujas de Saint-Fond here describes this epoch-making event when, on 21 November 1783, Pilatre de Rozier (pilot) and the Marquis d'Arlandes took off from the Chateau de la Muette in the Bois de Boulogne, in their gaily decorated Montgolfier hot-air balloon, and sailed across Paris for twenty-five minutes. This 5 ½-mile journey introduced the first air age." (Printing and the Mind of Man)

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
