    F. Scott Fitzgerald. The Great Gatsby. New York: The Modern Library, [1934]. First Modern Library edition, presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the half-title: "For Lovilla Bush / with Best / Wishes / of the Author / F. Scott Fitzgerald / A Hot Sunday in / June 1935." Small octavo (6.5 x 4 inches; 165 x 101 mm.). [xiv], 218, [6, ads] pages. Publisher's brown cloth, front board ruled in blind, front board and spine stamped in gilt. Patterned endleaves. In original dust jacket, printed on both sides; title list on the verso with the headline stating "225 Books;" not stamped "Discontinued Title" on the front panel. Backstrip sunned; bottom edge of covers lightly worn, particularly at the foot of the spine. Small scuff-mark to rear pastedown. Dust jacket faintly tanned, spine panel browned; crown with some shallow chipping; some light edgewear with nicks to the fold edges and the occasional closed tear; small bruise obscuring the series price on the front flap; light red stain to the verso of the rear panel at the upper edge, about half the width of the panel, mostly in the margin but partially affecting some text in the headline. Very good, chemised in quarter blue morocco slipcase. Lovilla Bush was the Algonquin Hotel's switchboard operator. Bruccoli. F. Scott Fitzgerald in the Marketplace. p. 101. From the James C. Seacrest Collection.
