    F. Scott Fitzgerald Signed C.E. Montague's Book Disenchantment, a criticism of World War I. The title plays a major part in Fitzgerald's book, The Great Gatsby. (New York: Brentano, nd [1922]), first edition, 221 pages, paper covered gingham boards and a black fabric spine with titles pasted on front and spine, 12mo (5.5" x 7.75"). An American novelist, Fitzgerald chronicled the Lost Generation and the Twenties, which he named "The Jazz Age." Among his most popular works are The Great Gatsby, The Last Tycoon and Tender Is The Night. Despite his success, he became an alcoholic and died young.

    F. Scott Fitzgerald signed the book in pencil on the free front endpaper and inscribed it "To Lissy." The book was published by Brentano's in New York. The physical connection between Montague and Fitzgerald is unclear but one can imagine from the content of Disenchantment regarding the way the world changed after the War gave way for Fitzgerald to write about the post-war roaring 20s in The Great Gatsby (1925). The topic of disenchantment also runs rampant in The Great Gatsby as Jay Gatsby realizes that being wealthy doesn't necessarily lead to happiness. Bumped corners, front hinge starting. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
