    Description

Ernest Hemingway. The Sun Also Rises. New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1926. First edition, first state, with "stoppped" on page 181, signed by the author on the front free endpaper. Octavo. [2, blank], [vi], 259, [1, blank] pages. Publisher's smooth black cloth, printed paper labels on gold paper on front board and spine. In the restored original first-issue dust jacket with "In Our Times" on the front panel. Backstrip dulled; boards lightly rubbed with a few spots of wear; paper labels toned, edges somewhat worn and chipped. Hinges repaired, but the signed front free endpaper does seem original to this copy, as most of the foxing spots correspond to matching spots on the facing pastedown. Endpapers discolored and foxed, text somewhat toned; some gutters over-opened. Dust jacket extensively restored; spine panel browned; some occasional edgewear and chipping; lightly thumbsoiled; price-clipped. Still, presents as a very good copy. A serviceable copy of a literary high spot. Housed on modern quarter morocco clamshell case. Hanneman 6a.
