    Ernest Hemingway. Across the River and Into the Trees. New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1950. First edition, one of only twenty-five advance copies printed from the uncorrected sheets in a special presentation binding; signed note by David A. Randall, who worked for Scribner's and ran their rare book store, on the front pastedown in manuscript ink: "One of twenty-five / advance copies / David A. Randall." With all of the first issue points for the advance issue, as per Hanneman. Octavo (8.25 x 5.25 inches; 209 x 133 mm.). xii, 308 pages. Publisher's special binding of dark blue buckram, Hemingway's signature stamped in gilt on the front board, spine ruled and lettered in gilt. Several very tiny white "dots" on the front board; minute rubbing to corners; upper front corner with a small bump. Binding very slightly skewed. Nearly fine. Housed in a custom chemise and quarter red morocco slipcase. In the entry for this book in his bibliography, Hanneman quotes Randall's article, "A Dukedom Large Enough: II...," about the points for this uncommon issue. Hanneman 23A, p. 62. From the James C.
