    First trade edition, first issue with publisher's seal on copyright page and no disclaimer on page [x]. Octavo. 355 pages.

    Black cloth with black stamped gold labels on the front board and spine. First issue dust jacket with $2.50 price and "Katharine Barclay" on the front inner flap. Very minor bumping to corners and spine ends; light bloom to cloth. Previous owner's ink name on front free endpaper; pencil notations to front endpapers. Dust jacket is rubbed, creased at the edges, slightly soiled, lightly chipped, and with some small closed tears to spine ends. Very good condition.


    More Information: The novel first appeared in serialized format in Scribner's Magazine from May to October of 1929, just prior to publication in book form in September 1929.
