    Description

A Collection of Three of Erle Stanley Gardner's
Books on Baja, California - All Presentation Copies

Erle Stanley Gardner. Collection of Three Travel Books. Including: The Land of Shorter Shadows; Hunting the Desert Whale; The Hidden Heart of Baja. New York: William Morrow and Company, 1948-1962. First editions. Presentation copies (each to a different recipient). Although all three inscriptions are friendly, the inscription in The Land of Shorter Shadows is inscribed to Gardner's friend and mentor, Dr. Robert P. Brittain, an English doctor and criminologist who aided Gardner with his Perry Mason mysteries: "To/Dr Robert P. Brittain [?]/from his friend and/pupil and with the/[?] Perry Mason way/are [?]/small percentage of his/ brilliance in solving/crime and a [?]/his ability in [?]/an audience./Yours/Erle Stanley Gardner/[?]/Oct 28 1948". Brittain was such an influence on Gardner, that Gardner had dedicated several novels to him. Three octavo volumes. Publisher's original bindings, dust jackets. Spines lightly sunned, some rubbing to jackets and bindings. Generally very good or better.
