Ellis Parker Butler. "Pigs is Pigs" Original Holograph Manuscript. [place of production not identified: undated, circa 1905?]. Signed by the author at end of text. Twenty-four numbered, lined leaves (10 x 8 inches; 254 x 204 mm.). Text on rectos only, copious autograph corrections, also in the author's hand. Sheets held together with a brass fastener and housed in a worn, creased bifolium of green construction paper. Original title, "Guinea Pigs in Pawn" with double strikethrough and new title, "The Dago Pig Episode" written above it. Normal soft age toning, with evidence of handling throughout and several soft, horizontal creases to majority of leaves; rubbing to recto of first leaf; nick out of right side of final leaf, resulting in a minuscule tear that does not affect text. Very good. With an unrelated ALS dated November 17, 1943.

[Together with:] Original Unpublished Typescript of "The Story of Pigs-is-Pigs." Housatonie, Mass.: July 8, 1936. Signed by the author at end of text, along with a small cartoon rendering of a pig. Thirteen numbered leaves (11 x 8.5 inches; 280 x 216 mm.). Text on rectos only. Loose sheets held together with paperclip. Light rubbing and a faint spot of thumbsoiling at recto of first leaf; offsetting from paperclip rust at front and rear of packet. Essentially fine. Accompanied by a freshly-typed copy and carbon typescript of this copy, as well as letters from The American Magazine, Atlantic Monthly, and American Heritage politely refusing the offer of one of the manuscript's previous owners to publish the piece in their periodicals. All material housed together in custom brown cloth clamshell.
