Publisher's red cloth with black top hat on front board and black-lettered spine. Minor edgewear. Yellow endpapers printed with publisher's monogram in white. Internally clean and tight copy; text block toned, minor intermittent finger soiling, minor edgewear. Dust jacket featuring distinctive Queen of Diamonds design common to early Queen dust jackets, unclipped (price $2.50); minor edgewear, chipping to head and foot of spine panel and corners, front panel partially detached along fold, spine sunned, somewhat rubbed. Very good book with very good dust jacket.

    The book that started a legacy, this is the first title by, and featuring, Ellery Queen, who would go on to be known as one of the three most well-known names in all of American detective fiction (Haycraft, Murder for Pleasure, p. 175). A Haycraft Queen Cornerstone.
