    Eleven octavo volumes with steel engraved frontispiece portraits and printed portraits throughout. Contains short biographies of noted authors, with a General Index in Volume XI.

    Beautifully bound in three-quarter red morocco over marbled boards, gilt decoration and gilt lettering on spines. Marbled endpapers. Top edges gilt. Light to moderate rubbing at board edges and corners; a few bumped corners. Spines are in fine condition, with minimal wear to head and tail. Textblocks are near perfect - bright, tight, and fully intact. Stedman was an American banker, poet, and critic who is probably most remembered for his compilations of important world literature.
