Edgar Rice Burroughs. Tarzan of the Apes. In The All-Story, Volume XXIV, Number 2, October 1912. New York: Frank A. Munsey Company, 1912. First edition of the first appearance of Tarzan, containing the entire text of Tarzan of the Apes. This first appearance precedes the A. C. McClurg book edition by a year-and-a-half. Large octavo. [8, advertisements], 241-480, [12, advertisements] pages. The complete text of Tarzan of the Apes appears on pages 241-372. Front cover illustration by Clinton Pettee, black-and-white headpiece by Fred W. Small. Original color pictorial printed wrappers, white paper spine printed in blue; striking colors bright and well preserved, minor nicks and short, closed tears to front wrapper, a few wrinkles and creases, professional, expert restorations to spine and front joint, preserving original spine, fore- and bottom edges of wrappers slightly trimmed, and probably deacidified, verso of front wrapper stained and foxed with a small cello-tape repair, back wrapper generally well-preserved with bright colors, expert repair to back wrapper reinforcing the fore-edge, unobtrusive blindstamp to back wrapper, and small cello-tape repair to back wrapper. Internally generally clean; text block toned as is almost always the case, staining to first leaf of ads with small hole and paper remnants (but not from front wrapper) and small tears around stapled text block on first leaf of ads only. Overall, very good condition for this notoriously fragile piece.

"This certainly counts as one of the rarest and most desirable of all the Burroughs items," (Zeuschner).

    Heins, p. 38; Zeuschner (1996) 694, Zeuschner (2016) pp. 421-422.

*Note: Updated with fore- and bottom edges of wrappers slightly trimmed, and probably deacidified.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
