Inscribed by Burroughs on the front free endpaper: "To / Baron [?] L Evans [?] / The man in the jacket / is supposed to be my / Son-in-law, James / H. Pierce - also / opposite pg 176 / Sincerely / Edgar Rice Burroughs / 18.22.29." Fourth issue of the photoplay edition of the book. Octavo. [viii], 333, [11, ads] pages. With photographic frontispiece and three photographic illustrations inserted throughout. Publisher's full orange cloth, front board and spine stamped in black. In the publisher's first issue of the photoplay dust jacket. Cloth spine toned and creased, headcap chipped, tailcap worn with a few tears. Some wear to joints, boards rubbed with minor thumbsoiling, corners worn. Endleaves and text a bit toned. Slightly skewed. Jacket toned. Jacket spine creased, jacket panels with some edgewear, and several short tears. Rear jacket panel soiled and dampstained. Still, a good copy with an excellent inscription. Zeuschner, pp. 352-353.
