Edgar Rice Burroughs. Pellucidar. A sequel to "At the Earth's Core" relating the further adventures of David Innes in the land underneath the Earth's Crust. Chicago: A. C. McClurg & Co., 1923. First edition. Association copy, inscribed by Burroughs to his son, Hulbert Burroughs, "Hulbert Burroughs / with love / from Papa / Tarzana Ranch / Sept 5 1923" with a note on the verso of the dust jacket, "Hulbert Burroughs / Tarzana Ranch / April 23, 1925 / L. A. / California." Octavo. [10], 322, [4, blank] pages. Frontispiece and three additional inserted plates by J. Allen St. John; full-page map drawn by Burroughs. Publisher's red cloth, spine and front lettered in black; all text block edges trimmed; original illustrated dust jacket. Spine ends crimped and worn; backstrip slightly faded; a few spots of surface-level insect damage scattered across cloth; minor wear along board edges and at corners. Text block softly dulled, particularly at edges. Jacket lightly rubbed, soiled, with a few faint drip stains at and near spine panel; a bit of wear along edges, including a handful of tears; all edges and flaps reinforced with clear tape, now starting to yellow with age. Very good overall. Burroughs' inscription, dated the day of the book's publication, falls in line with his habit of giving the first copy of each new title to his son. Zeuschner, p. 234.
