    More Information:

In these warm letters, Burroughs writes to a teenage fan (apparently the son of the owner of the Oneonta Department Store in Oneonta, New York), and in many of the letters he mentions his books (mainly as upcoming titles). Some excerpts:

"Do not be discouraged if you cannot write as successfully now as a man who is nearly fifty. I did not start to write until I was thirty-five... I do not know if I shall write any more stories about Pellucidar, but THE LAND THAT TIME FORGOT, which will be out in the spring, is a similar story, and one which I am sure you will enjoy."

"I enjoyed the copy of The Meteor you sent me, and wish to thank you for the free advertising, which I am sure will be reflected by an increased sale of [hand-corrected] AT THE EARTH'S CORE. My boys have a printing press, but they have not been particularly successful with the work they turn out, I think partially due to the fact that their time is so occupied with weightier matters that they have never yet had time to clean the rollers or the type, which is not a particularly good thing for the rollers."

"Tarzan and the Antmen is the latest of my books since The Land That Time Forgot. I hope you will enjoy it. I am glad to know that you are Sophomore News Reporter on your High School paper. Don't lose any opportunity to write as much for it as possible as all such experience helps you to acquire ease in writing and a style of your own."

Wilmer Edgar Bresee has written such books as Trails from the East, West and South, Along Masonic Trails, and The Quest.
