Nuremberg: Apud Johannem Danielem Tauberum, 1699. Part I only (of three), originally issued in three parts, containing 621, 276, and 212 pages, respectively. Small octavo (6.4375 x 3.875 inches; 163 x 100 mm). [2, title (verso blank)], [12], 621, [3, "Indiculus"] pages. With forty-nine finely engraved plates, largely botanical. Decorative woodcut head-pieces and initials.Contemporary vellum over boards. Edges sprinkled red. Top edge darkened, or with black edge stain. Some soiling and rubbing to binding; spine detached from backing, but still firmly attached to boards, small tears to vellum along upper and lower joints. Some foxing and browning, especially to the plates along the edges. Tiny adhesion concealing two letters on p. 78; leaves N1-N4 (pp. 193-200) with tiny nick or ding to lower edge; half-inch tear to upper margin of final leaf; a few additional minor tears or paper flaws. Diagonal ink streaks across lower half of p. 382, and in outer margin of p. 383. Armorial bookplate of Richard Wilson, D. D. (with motto: Alta Peto) on front pastedown; early ink signature of Wallace L. Hall on front free endpaper; tiny faint ink signature between "FINIS" and type ornament on final page; "Snakes 201" written in blue ink at foot of final page.
