    Description

Giordano Bruno. De progressu et lampade venatoria logicorum. [Wittenberg: Z. Crato], 1587. First edition. Octavo (5.3125 x 3.3125 inches; 136 x 84 mm). [16], 79 [i.e. 80] leaves. Signatures: A-F8. Numerous errors in pagination. Woodcut diagrams in the text. Type ornament vignette on title-page; type ornament tail-piece. Decorative woodcut initials.

Later vellum over boards with fore-edge extensions. Vellum darkened and soiled in places. Bound without free endleaves. Tightly bound, making it difficult to open fully. Very minor foxing and soiling; some faint edge stain visible on text leaves. A fine copy, the paper especially clean.

In this work, Bruno advocated a technique for discovery through pure thought, influenced by the methodology of Raymond Lull.
