    Edward Coke. The First Part of the Institutes of the Lawes of England. Or, A Commentarie Upon Littleton, Not the Name of a Lawyer Onely, But of the Law Itselfe. London: Printed for the Societie of Stationers, 1628. First edition. Octavo (10.25 x 8 inches; 260 x 203 mm). [14], 395, [2, errata], [1, blank], [30, table] pages. Engraved title page and folding table. Contemporary leather, rebacked. Title page woodcut repaired at the lower right corner; leather boards rough and with dry rot; lacking a leaf before the title page; title page a bit stained; marginal tears repaired; scattered contemporary marginalia. Good condition. After his retirement as a member of Parliament, Coke spent the remainder of his life compiling the Institutes of the Lawes of England which became a massive work published in four parts between 1628 and 1644. This first part dealing with property rights was issued during his lifetime, the remaining three parts were issued posthumously. ESTC 15784.
