FIRST EDITION, with "Patronage" on A3v, line 19. "This treatise, together with the author's Conduct of the Understanding, occupies a place in the history of education similar to that of his Essay of Human Understanding in epistemology. It has been, perhaps, even more frequently reprinted and translated" (Pforzheimer).

Condition: Calf worn and abraded; corners, areas along edges, and portions along spine refreshed; rebacked and spine laid-down. Hinges reinforced; endpapers with moderate spotting and foxing; also with ink and pencil notations. Moderate to severe dampstaining to text throughout, occasional soiling and spotting; scattered marginalia.
