    Description

[Henry Ward]: "February, 1777. At the General Assembly of the governor and Company of the state of Rhode-Island and Providence Plantations..." 30 pages, 8.25" x 12.25" (untrimmed).Providence, printed by John Carter. February 1777. Bound with string, this thirty-page printed report documents state expenditures for various goods and services, a great many of which concern the war with Britain and those who both supply and wage it. Of particular note is the declaration on page three, noting the great need to find a suitable separate site for a small pox hospital in Providence, because "a Communication of which among the Troops, at this critical Period, would be attended with the most fatal Consequences." Moderate toning, torn corner of first page. Final two pages are later facsimiles of the original.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
