[Council of Trent]. Canones, Et Decreta Sacrosancti Oecumenici Et Generalis Concilii Tridentini Sub Paulo III, Iulio III, Pio IIII. Pont. Max. Et bulla Confirmationis. S. D. N. Et alia Declaratoria. Index Dogmatum; et Reformationis. Venetiis (Venice): Aldus Manutius, 1566. Early edition. Small octavo. 184, [16, Index], [6, Papal Bulls] leaves. Large Aldine press anchor and dolphin device on title page, attractive woodcut initials. Contemporary or early vellum with remnants of ties. Spine with still slightly legible handwritten title in ink. With general wear appropriate to age, small stains to vellum and top edge. Previous owner's ink names to first couple leaves including the title page. Sheets lightly toned and soiled in places. Pastedown endpapers mostly loose, soiled and with worming at the rear, short tear at fore-edge margin of C7; top edge stain seeping down into top margin mostly in signature K, slightly overopened and cracking between signatures N and O, worming to bottom margin near gutter starting with very small holes around signature K and progressively becoming heavier as it moves toward the back (never quite touching the text but for a few catchwords on the versos), small soiled spot to bottom fore-edge corner of T4, bottom corners folded up on X1 and X2, small stains to gutter margin from signature R becoming more pronounced as you move to the rear (largest stain in last three signatures about three inches by half an inch on each page). Despite these flaws, still a very handsome and attractive copy with supple pages. Very good. Collection of canons and decrees established by the Council of Trent (1545-1563).
