Broadside transmitting Royal decree dated Feb. 23 of the same year, ordering that all litigation involving military personnel will be adjudicated in military courts, with the exception of property and inheritance matters. Double elephant folio, 12.25" x 17" on revenue sealed laid paper, May 22, 1793, signed in type by Revilla Gigedo at bottom, adding his holograph rubric, with a full signature by Viceroy Count of Sierra Gorda, Manuel Escandon (son of Jose), certifying that it was properly published. This practice occurred during the transition between outgoing and incoming Viceroys. Holograph notation at bottom: "Sant. Y Agosto 20 1793 / Publish in this capital and remit to the captains of the veteran companies for their prompt compliance." The Escandons chose several sites near the Rio Grande for settlement and development; they included Laredo and Dolores in present Texas, as well as several on the south bank of the river, and another farther north on the Nueces, the only settlement which was not successful. Double folio broadsides from this early period are very scarce, particularly those from the Santander region. Very light dampstaining and light chipping at top edge, otherwise very good. From the Taking of Texas Collection.
