With a Journal of the Voyage from New York, via Nicaragua, to San Francisco, and Back, via Panama. Boston: Published by John P. Jewett & Company, 1854. First edition. Inscribed on front blank leaf, "Hon. Thomas Burch & Lady / with respects of / The Author". Twelvemo. [2, blank] xi, 356 pp [1, blank]. 1 folding map. Original full cloth. Front joint cracking and rear joint starting, chipping on backstrip of spine. Minor loss on head and tail pieces. Some dampstaining on lower left of front cover as well as tail edge of textblock. Front hinge starting at tail, spine cloth exposed; dampstain on lower portion. Occasional minor foxing. Over-opened at folding map and title page and pp. 350-351. Folding map restored on one vertical folding crease and on tear near inner hinge; some creasing on edges of map; short tears on vertical folding creases along upper edge. Rear hinge starting, with a bit of worming in lower portion. A good candidate for re-binding.
