    More Information: Calmet (1672-1757), French Benedictine monk, was abbot of St. Leopold (Nancy, France) where he assiduously added to the abbey library and museum. "His learning, indeed, was most extensive, as the greater part of his long life was devoted to study...This work...is a valuable treasure of sacred history and criticism." [Chalmers] He is best known for his Biblical studies and for his work on vampirism.
