Description

Inscribed by Dashiell Hammett

Dashiell Hammett. The Thin Man. New York: Grosset & Dunlap, [1934]. Early reprint. With a first-rate inscription signed by Hammett, reading: "To Lu [or Lo or Lou or Leo] Kaye - / with everything / I can think of - / and then plus & / plus & plus - and / all in spades - and, / Jesus, do I mean / it. / Dashiell Hammett" on the half-title page. Octavo. 259 pages. Publisher's red cloth stamped in black. Housed in a black leather slipcase and cloth chemise. Minor edge wear. Front hinge starting. Rear hinge over-opened a bit. Previous owner's name to the verso of the half-title page. Overall, a handsome copy in very good condition. If the inscription is intended for Leo Kaye, he was a Hollywood bit player in a handful of films in the 1940s.
