Three quarto volumes. Complete with 158 inserted lithographs, engravings, charts and maps (including 23 hand-colored natural history plates). Lacks the suppressed "Public Bath at Simoda," not called-for in list of illustrations. With numerous wood-engravings throughout. Publisher's original cloth binding. Some sunning and rubbing to bindings, text over-opened in several places in Volume I, page 411 in Volume I with a hole and damage to text, some foxing to plates, a few tears to fold-out charts and maps. Bookplates of Joseph Cook in Volume I and II. Overall, near fine.
