[Mickey Spillane]. Mickey Spillane's Personal 1942 Issue of Green Hornet. Volume 1, Number 10.

More Information: [Mickey Spillane]. Mickey Spillane's Personal 1942 Issue of Green Hornet, Volume 1, Number 10, Which Introduces "Mark Lancer," the Prototype of "Mike Hammer." Mickey worked for Lloyd Jacquet's Funnies, Inc. in the late 1930s and early 1940s. Funnies, Inc. packaged comics and sold them to publishers. Included with the comic is an original typed one-page manuscript written by Mickey in 2006 in which he recalled his time at Funnies: "Lloyd Jacquet, a dead ringer for Douglas MacArthur (corncob pipe and all) was a wonderful man, but never could understand living among wildcat writers and artists. All of us were pretty much free lance people so firing us would have been a useless gesture." It was during his time at Funnies that Spillane introduced his Mike Lancer character, in a story called "Mike Lancer and the Syndicate of Death." It appeared in Volume 1, Number 10 of Green Hornet, published in 1942. It was illustrated by Harry Sahle who would later team up with Mickey on his Mike Danger and Mike Hammer comics. Mickey's issue is in read but very good condition. Included with the lot is a three-ring notebook with color copies of the pages of Mickey's story from the Green Hornet, as well as color copies of his 1954 Mike Danger story "Murder in the Burlesque" from Crime Detector comics and four color copies of the covers of four Detective Comics issues featuring Mike Hammer stories. Overstreet 2016 VG 4.0 value = $239. From the estate of Mickey Spillane.
