Paolo Mascagni. Anatomia Universale... Florence: Vittorio Batelli and Sons, 1833. The magnificent condensed version of Mascagni's masterwork (originally published from 1823-1832). Large folio. Approximately 18 x 12 inches. 292, [4, index] pages. With 150 plates inserted throughout, 75 of which are in outline, and the remaining 75 are hand-colored. Complete. [Bound with:] [Paolo Mascagni, association]. Grande Anatomia del Corpo Umano... Pisa: F. Didot for Nicolo Capurro, 1822. Large folio. Approximately 17.25 x 11.25 inches. Five untrimmed leaves. This is the rare prospectus of the original edition (not the condensed edition above), describing the printing process and the illustrations, etc. Bound-in at front. Bound in later quarter vellum over marbled boards, spine tooled in gilt, with green and burgundy gilt morocco lettering labels. Some chipping to spine labels, spine toned, some soiling and light wear to binding, joints just starting, some soiling to first several leaves and endleaves and light dampstaining at top margin throughout. Plate facing page 36 with a short marginal tear (not affecting image). Prospectus dampstained and foxed. Overall, a very good copy with the very rare prospectus (the prospectus is not listed in Norman, Osler, Wellcome, and no copies are to be found on RLIN).
