The Longest Panorama in Hand-Colored Aquatint

[Hand-Colored Aquatints in Panorama]. [Arthur Wellesley, The Duke of Wellington, subject]. Henry Alken and George Augustus Sala. The Funeral Procession. Arthur Duke of Wellington. London: Ackermann and Co., 1852. First edition of this large and beautiful panorama. Approximately 5.5 x 804 inches. Continuous view, in fifty-six panels when folded. Each panel with text captions at bottom of the names of regiments, individuals, etc. who were involved in the procession. One panel with folding flap to examine the interior of the funeral car. Every panel in hand-colored aquatint. In publisher's original oblong red cloth folder (approximately 5.5 x 14.5 inches), boards double-ruled in blind with gilt central text and armorial stamp. Publisher's advertisement affixed to rear inside cover. Folder expertly rebacked with later red cloth, and some panels have repairs to verso at folds. Some rubbing and mild wear, mild thumbsoiling, else a near fine example. Now housed in custom-built cloth clamshell case. From a private collection from New Orleans.

    More Information:
