Baa Baa Black Sheep Signed by
"Pappy Boyington" and the Japanese Ace
who Claimed to Have Shot Him Down

Col. Gregory ("Pappy") Boyington. Baa Baa Black Sheep. Fresno: Wilson Press, Inc., [1958]. Seventeenth printing. Inscribed on the half-title by "Pappy" Boyington: "To Norman Martin-/With Warmest Regards/Always-/Pappy Boyington. Additionally inscribed on the half-title by Masajiro "Mike" Kawato, the Japanese Ace pilot who claimed to have shot down Boyington on January 3, 1944: "Masajiro Mike Kawato/[text in Japanese]/Japanese WWII Ace 19 Victories/I shot down Col Greg/Pappy Boyington/Jan 26, 1982-". Octavo. 384 pages. With inserted frontispiece portrait. Publisher's full blue cloth, spine lettered in silver, dust jacket. Jacket spine sunned, jacket worn at edges, with dampstaining to rear panel, some wear to binding. Later price sticker on rear jacket panel. Still, a good copy. Boyington and Kawato eventually became friends (and even sometimes appeared at book signings together), but there is controversy as to whether Kawato is actually the Ace who shot down Boyington (although Kawato maintained that he had done so until his death).
