An Important Chemistry Manual, Rare in First Edition by an Important (and Notorious) Swiss Chemist
Christophle [sic] Glaser. Traite de la Chymie.
Paris: Chez l'Autheur, 1663. The rare first edition. Small octavo.
[xviii], , [1, blank] pages. With two fold-out plates inserted
throughout. Bound in later quarter brown calf over marbled boards,
spine tooled ruled in gilt in compartments, burgundy gilt morocco
lettering label, five raised bands, edges stained red, marbled
endleaves. Some wear to binding, rear joint cracking, front joint
starting (yet both still quite solid), front free endpaper excised,
text a bit toned and with some occasional mild foxing. Still, a
very good copy of this rare and popular chemistry book (it went
through ten editions in twenty-five years). Glaser (1615-1678[?])
was royal apothecary to Louis XIV and the Duke of Orléans. Due to
his work on the subject, he has a solid solution of potassium
sulfate and sodium named for him (Glaserite). He had been accused
of aiding Madame de Brinvilliers in her notorious poisonings, but
it is doubtful he participated.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
